Vernon, Patriarch of the Amber Fall clan, stood confidently at the head of a force of three dozen magus, his cosmic energy radiating a palpable aura of menace. Flanking him were two Grand Magus experts—one was a skinny man with round glasses, his frail frame giving him an almost scholarly appearance, while the other was short and stout, his thick beard and sturdy build reminiscent of a dwarf. Neither of them bothered to hide their hostile intent, their gazes fixed on Emery with predatory focus.
"Is this really the one we're supposed to kill?" the short Grand Magus scoffed, scratching his beard in confusion. "A mere Magus? This hardly seems worth our time!"
Vernon's expression remained cold and resolute as he spoke, his voice sharp as a blade. "Stick to the plan. Kill this one first. Then we'll deal with the old man. We'll blame his death on his sickness, or better yet, pin it on him—this suspicious beastman!"
The skinny Grand Magus adjusted his glasses briefly before slipping them into his robe pocket. His lifeless, pupil-less eyes stared into Emery with an eerie stillness. "I don't care who I'm killing, Vernon… as long as you pay me what you promised."
